Tragedia Endogonidia by Romeo Castellucci
Tragedia Endogonidia by Romeo Castellucci
A shared viewing of excerpts from the works of Romeo Castellucci, with a discussion between Nava Frenkel and Nir Shauloff. Castellucci’s unique work spans over three years (2001-2004) and develops into different stages called “chapters,” each chapter belongs to the city from which it takes its name.
The term “Endogonidia” refers to simple living organisms that contain gonads, organs in which reproductive cells are produced endlessly. “Tragedy,” on the other hand, always presupposes an end and deals with finality. In this tragedy, ideas, characters, and concepts are organized into a dramatic cycle that adopts the Greek tragedy model, but fills it with content directed towards the future.
Eleven of the films that make up the cycle were created by Cristiano Carloni and Stefano Franceschetti (except the first, written by Romeo Castellucci) with original music by composer Scott Gibbons, created in collaboration with Chiara Guidi.
