On Paper
On Paper
The expression “Carte Blanche,” which literally means “white document,” originally referred to an empty document that was pre-signed by one party and could be filled in later by the other party at their discretion. In other words, it grants the recipient complete freedom to act as they see fit. However, can we truly achieve such absolute freedom when facing the blank page waiting to be filled? What motivates us to move forward in our creative efforts? Is it internal will and intention, or perhaps unconscious expectations, external influences, or societal constructs?
“On Paper” is a creative research that began with a stack of A4 pages and a state of not-knowing. The blank pages, which seemingly do not contain any form of artistic expression, invite contemplation of concepts such as will, motivation, passion, curiosity, creativity, freedom, and intention. They encourage us to ask questions about the choices we make, the empty canvases we encounter in our lives, and what drives us to fill them in the way we do.
The performance was created as part of the New Department program at SVT, with the support of the Jerusalem Foundation
