Bezel el

Group Exhibition
Opening 14.07.26 Tuesday 18:00

A group exhibition bringing together historical works from the Schatz Collection alongside works by three contemporary artists.

The exhibition gapes open a moment in time in which the legacy of Professor Boris Schatz – founder of Bezalel, School of Arts and Crafts and the visionary of art and craft in Israel – meets the contemporary Israeli art, which faces international boycotts and an ever-narrowing place in today’s Israel.

This year marks the 120th anniversary of Bezalel, a milestone celebrated with exhibitions and events at Israel’s major art institutions. Bezel el takes place alongside these, but views the occasion from the margins: from the Living Gallery, founded by the School of Visual Theatre. From this minor position, at the margin, from the shadows, the exhibition reflects on the ethos, the institution, and the canon represented by Bezalel, and on its reverberations throughout Israel’s contemporary art.

Participating artists: Etti Abergel, Harel Luz, Ira Shalit, Ze’ev Raban, “Yaad” Group, Boris Schatz, Bezalel (Lilik) Schatz, Zahara Schatz

Curator: Naama Arad

Photography: Liat Elbling
