Performance Artist

This is not a play, not a performance, nor a lecture – but a show combining all these genres together. Interlaced within it are motifs and documentations from Hadas Ophrat’s body of work: a kind of retrospective of a seasoned artist reflecting on his past as both a creator and a researcher of performance art.

Premiering at SVT’s Performance Conference, the show alludes to Franz Kafka’s story A Hunger Artist, about an artist whose art is fasting. This is the central metaphor Ophrat has chosen, representing his artistic persona, as it raises questions about the essence of artistic action and the narrowing of the gap between art and life.

Hadas Ophrat is an interdisciplinary artist, recipient of the Israel Prize for the Performing Arts (2016). Ophrat founded the School of Visual Theater and was its first director.
