I Look After

In 2017, I premiered the show I Look After, which is a position statement by a single artist. In it, I returned to old images I had composed and reshaped them. In doing so, I gave the past a creative, alert, forward-facing role. I saw nostalgia as potential. Today, years later, I come closer once more to the oscillation that defined this work: between what was, what is, and what could have been. I examine this oscillation as a natural, existential mechanism, weighed against the present moment.

Nava Frenkel is a performance artist and stage writer. She holds a BA in Psychology and Philosophy and is a graduate of the School of Visual Theater (2008). Her poetic works construct a series of behaviors that explore the complexity of longing, discipline, omnipotence, and acceptance. Her creations weave together sophisticated wordplay, cheerful choreographic structures, and aesthetic tools that oscillate elegantly between the sacred and the mundane.

Selected works include: I Am a Force of Nature (2022), Hold Me (2020), Give Me a Fulcrum and I Will Move the Earth (2018), Learning Songs (2015), Palm Tree (2014), Rules and Mischief (2012), Now and Never (2011), and The Dying One (2010). Her works are regularly presented in Israel and have also been shown in Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, France, England, and the Netherlands. For the past two years, Frenkel has been director of the School of Visual Theater.
