Elective course for Third and Fourth year
Iris Erez
Iris Erez is a choreographer, dancer, teacher, and mother of two sons. She is a member of the Choreographers' Association and a partner in the improvisation group Octet. Her works are performed in Israel and around the world. In her works, she seeks to touch on political and public issues through the personal body, exploring the mutual influences between them and the connection between the technological and the physical. Iris teaches technique and improvisation and guides creative processes at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, as well as in private and international settings.
In this course, we will learn various body techniques and practices that will serve as a base for improvisation work.
Each session, we will encounter a different physical topic to work and challenge ourselves with. Some of the topics we’ll explore are: varying divisions of the body, movement qualities, musicality, group practice, image-based work, somatic work, emotion-based practice and more. We will explore the worlds of Release technique, Authentic Movement, Yoga, Contact among others, and generally, let the body be the center of our work, like an anchor in a troubled sea.
