Elective Course for First and Seccond year
Omer Sheizaf
Omer Sheizaf is an artist and lighting designer with a bachelor's degree in Literature and Philosophy from Tel Aviv University and a Master’s degree in art from Bezalel Academy. His works focus on the relationship between the performative and environmental aspects of light in public spaces and on stage, exhibited in various galleries. As an award-winning lighting designer, he has developed a unique language for contemporary dance and theater lighting. Sheizaf has collaborated with numerous creators in Israel and internationally, including Yasmeen Godder, Roy Assaf, Netta Barzilai, Batsheva Dance Company, Sharon Eyal, LA Dance Project (LADP), the Gothenburg Opera, Ballet du Capitole Toulouse, and others.
The course focuses on designing stage and artistic environments through light, exploring scenographic and dramaturgical principles. We will learn how to read and articulate space, understand light as a perceptual and narrative tool, and use it from the very early stages of creation.
Students will gain hands-on experience working with lighting systems in various spaces, ranging from performances to installations.
The course invites reflection on space as an action, on the relationships between light, environment, and movement, and on a creative process in which light functions as a shaping, dramatic, and narrative force.
