Tami Leibovitz
Tami Leibovitz is a choreographer, dancer, teacher, and costume designer. Her works explore the living body in the intersections of dance, performance, and visual art. She graduated from the School of Visual Theater in 2007, completed the two-year program for choreography at Seminar HaKibbutzim in 2011, and holds a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate from the Department of Movement and Dance at Seminar Hakibbutzim (2014). Her works have been presented on major stages in Israel and internationally. Leibovitz collaborates extensively with the artist Guy Gutman and serves as the artistic director of the choreography program at "Kelim."
Our concentrated study time within the workshop is titled “The Four-Headed Body.” The The Four-Headed Body is an environment that invites curiosity, imaginations, demands, yearnings, and play with and in relation to choreography. This environment stems from the premise that the body is an abstract material harboring infinite potential for discovery and exploration. Four winds, four compasses, and directional paths that will aid us in navigating. Thus, we can examine our questions and preconceptions regarding ourselves, knowledge, origin, preference, and even style.
Our class time will consist of exercises, conversations, reading, and presentations. It is a time of gathering for shared learning that is first and foremost experiential and rooted in hands-on practice. It is a gathering in a relatively intimate forum, which calls for a certain measure of vulnerability and closeness. This intimacy can serve to draw us closer to what we create in the studio, and to love it. It is a love that involves effort, is indeed contingent, and proves elusive. It will be our insistence: to love what we do.
Throughout the workshop, we will employ four choreographic distinctions, structure, material, image, and gifts for exercises and presentations.
