At Least I’m Walking

“CHOOSE LIFE
CHOOSE ROTTING AWAY AT THE END OF IT ALL
CHOOSE YOUR FUTURE
CHOOSE LIFE!!!”

(Trainspotting, 1996)

A dance piece taking place in an underground parking lot, charged with Dutch Gabber music and Japanese Butoh dance references.

My work process questioned and explored the ability to dance in the wake of a traumatic event, focusing on the physical and emotional mechanisms of trauma. The piece expresses the courage and loneliness involved in choosing life, and the intensity of the traumatic space between ecstasy and hell.

I dedicate this work to the girls at risk I worked with this year, the ones who went through the pain and choose to move within it. You are an eternal source of inspiration.
