Neurotically Longing
Neurotically Longing
A dance-performance piece that explores the grieving process of Ella’s grandmother. Since her grandfather’s death five years ago, Ella’s grandmother has sunk into grief. The widow’s coping mechanism with “the end” has become a subject of reflection and a starting point for the performance — a search for end points through the body and through material.
“With time, I have forgotten the reason for action, and all that remains in me is the desire to return again and again to the edge. The content has disappeared, but the action remains. It too was once related to the loss and has now aged. It is empty, withered, dry, and yet I perform it repeatedly, even when the body is exhausted. The thirst to feel seeks to consume the remnants of memory. Until the end. A final plea to hold on to beauty even in this moment. Just so it won’t end.”
