Calling
The film “Calling” was created by contemplating classical narrative structures, including that of the “hero’s journey,” as it has been expressed in countless works throughout history. At first glance, it appears to be another classic hero’s story – the routine life of Yoav is disrupted after being stung by a mysterious mosquito, and from that moment on, he is constantly called to “fulfill his destiny”. In his journey, Yoav encounters a secret society, a new love, and a suitcase. The film attempts to examine what happens when the hero gets stuck in the first stage of the mythological narrative structure – the “call to adventure” stage. The result is larger-than-life yet grayish epic tale, mythical and insignificant at the same time.
