Hyla Mamilla
Hyla Mamilla
A show about addiction to fame, luxury, consumerism, fashion, myth worship, dating, alcohol, sex, and pop culture. It was inspired by a flawed scientific study written by an Israeli professor, claiming to have discovered a new species of tree frogs in the Mamilla Pool in Jerusalem. The frog, scientifically named “Hyla Heinzsteinitzi,” later gained the popular name “Ilanit Mamilla.”
The performance follows Ilanit Mamilla’s journey from anonymity to stardom and explores the human need to feel special. The journey takes place in the complex political-historical territory of the region — a past erased under the establishment of luxury hotels and shopping centers, alongside a Museum of Tolerance built on a Muslim graveyard. The performance aims to find a healing space amidst the constant pursuit of grandeur, showing its inherent absurdity through humor, joy, and togetherness.
